More Golf Day sponsors as we get busy after the festive break

We had a nice break during the festive period, but now we're back, and keen to get busy! Check back very soon for more updates as the third annual Adam Millichip Foundation Memorial Golf Challenge gets busy in the build up to the big day.

To kick us off we have another bunch of sponsors to tell you about. Virgin Holidays, South Hereford Audi, NPD Services UK, Advantage Business Supplies and WH Ireland return to support us for a third year in a row. Artemis Investment Management, Liverpool Victoria and Brewin Dolphin are new this year while Aegon return after supporting us in 2010. They join the already confirmed Ingram Hawkins & Nock, Scottish Life and Abacus Associates. Chesterton Humberts are sponsoring 2 holes once again. Without these companies the golf day would not even tee off, so we thank every single one of them.

Leonie and Aaliyah video

In the summer we agreed to fund Leonie and Aaliyah to attend their local RDA (Riding for the Disabled) school and we have had some footage from the girls in action.

Their mum sent us this update:

"We had some new x-rays for Leonie last week - her spinal curvature is holding at 48 degrees, no progression in six months, which we have never had - they are putting it down to the constant flex of the muscles through riding - keeping her back strong - so this isn't just something nice they do - it is actually delaying a huge spinal surgery. This is so important for them and you guys are now a big part of that."

Remembering those not with us today

Adam served with the Queens Royal Hussars, and we would like to take this time to remember those who are sadly not with us today.

All casulties of war are greatly missed. We tip our hats and salute all that risk their lives in the name of our Country.

12 months of firsts for the Adam Millichip Foundation

As the summer fundraising comes to an end we look back at the awesome people who have joined us!

As autumn rapidly approaches and the nights are drawing in, the summer of fundraising comes to a pleasant end, and we would like to reflect on the first 9 months as a charity.

But before we do, we would like to thank everyone involved in the recent 3legged race in Tenbury Wells for Tenbury United Football Club and us. With the brilliance of the organisers Erin, Aaron and the Tavern along with the population of Tenbury Wells, it was a fun filled day for those who took part. A job very well done. From the trustees Stuart, Paul, Mark and Mark, along with the rest of the Millichip family, we thank you very much for organising this day for us. Thank you also to Fran from FJH photography, who kindly provided us with the pictures from the day.

It all started back in early spring when 7 brave volunteers took to the sky to raise money for us. A 10,000 foot assent in a tiny airplane must have been the time when many finger nails were a little bit shorter than on the ground, and then a freefall for 30 seconds before the parachute opened for the final decent back to Earth. We would once again like to thank Ash, Daniel, David, Kirsty, Louise and Luke for fundraising for us while doing something really rewarding. We also thank Adam and Leanne who took part in our second skydive in August.

May brought us the Second Annual Adam Millichip Memorial Golf Challenge at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club where Gary Mann, Wayne Smith, Sam Pain & Mikey Jacks won first prize and earned themselves a trip to the Irish Open. We are blessed to have so many willing volunteers helping us on this day, to mention just a few Aaron and Lank for their help setting up the course the day before, the ladies who baked beautiful cakes for the half way house, the staff at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club for their support on the days and weeks leading up to the day especially Graham, Tim and George. Of course every single player who joined us on the course, we hope you had a great day and will join us again next year. A huge amount of gratitude also goes to the many companies and individuals that sponsored the day and donated the prizes, without you the day would not go ahead. Thank you all.

Then as summer really kicked in and June came to us, so did the first individual sport challenge for the Foundation. Trustee Mark Benbow and friend Chris Aspey rode their bikes for 240 miles from Holyhead in the very north of Wales to Barry in the very south of Wales, in just 2 days. We all followed the boys on their journey thanks to expert tracking provided by Quartix of Newport. The lads raised a stack of cash for us and it was most certainly earned. The first day was quite a hike at times as they ventured through the Snowdonia National park, but were aided by beautiful scenes and lovely sunny weather. Let’s just say they were tired when they got to Rhayadar after about 12 hours of riding and over 120 miles covered in 1 day.

It was a tale of 2 halves. Sunday brought torrential rainfall, fog and dreary dark clouds coupled with heavy winds. A different task from the Saturday. The boys were most definitely tested and won the challenge of will power against the powers of Mother Nature. Earlier than expected and in good spirit the boys arrived at their destination at about 5pm that day, travelling for about 9 hours that day through the tests of the weather. A real challenge of strength, endurance and will power over 2 long, well fought days. We are proud of you!

In July we were excited to have our very first celebrity. John peters was made famous in a tough situation which was shown to the World by the International press. John was a pilot in the RAF in the first Gulf war and had been shot down in combat with his navigator John Nichol, then captured by the Iraq army. He told us at an after dinner talk how he was tortured and then eventually released. We’d like to thank John and Helen for coming and seeing us all and making a very memorable evening for all who attended.

It’s been a busy time since November when the Foundation was recognised as a charity and in that time we have helped many people into a sport.

Stuart and Paul Millichip, Mark Benbow and Mark Fish, the Trustees, would like to thank every single person who has kindly helped us in this event and hope to work with you again in the future.

We have several things currently being confirmed for the winter months and will update you all in the very near future, so let’s hope the winter brings as much success as the summer has. See you all very soon!
