Val Fisher

Val is our special guest this evening to assist with the golf day presentations.

Val lives locally in Baschurch, Shrewsbury and was paralysed from the chest down after a horse riding accident in 2007 which broke her neck. She spent 13 weeks at the Midlands centre for spinal injuries and felt confident that she would make a full recovery. As she explains " I felt sure that the progress would continue, and that I would make a slow, but complete recovery eventually but my legs never got any better." After returning home from the hospital she decided to set herself a new goal in life and set up Shrewsbury's first wheelchair tennis group based at the Shrewsbury Club.

The club regularly has 16 wheelchair members playing on a weekly basis and is keen to help more people to play the sport, Val herself became a very good player and last year finished an impressive runner up in both the singles and doubles in theNational Wheelchair Tennis Championships held in Gloucester. Val's run at the prestigious event is impressive also as she has now finished runner up twice in 3 years.

Val's tireless work at the club has made her a very popular lady and we at the Foundation are proud to have agreed to help her and the Wheelchair Club in the future.
