Golf day wins gold for disabled sports all over the country, again

Golf Day 2013

Despite a harsh economic climate in the UK, The Fourth Annual Adam Millichip Memorial golf challenge came up trumps yet again, raising over £7000 for the Adam Millichip Foundation Charity. Coming close to previous years totals, it seems the recession has managed to avoid us.

At about 7am on May 10th 2013 Stuart Millichip, Chairman of The Adam Millichip Foundation, teed off the day which was a complete success. The weather held up just enough for a good game of golf, which saw our winners finally get their hands on the trophy after being second for the last 2 years. We are pleased to confirm the 2013 champions are Paul Higgins, Aaron Morris, James Owens and Ashley Botwood. They were presented the trophy by Paralympic Gold Medallist Josie Pearson MBE, who was at the evening celebration as a special guest, along with Stuart Millichip, pictured here.

Following them very closely with just 1 point between them in second were Jack Pringle, Sam Pringle, Ryan Taylor and Tim Hall. They were followed in third by winners of the 2011 day Simon Eades, Mark Fish, Dave Pain and Tom Pain. The family prize was won by Will and Guy Hodnett.

This years winners will play 2 rounds of golf at the Fota Island resort in Cork which has hosted several Irish Opens along with 2 nights at a 5 star resort hotel. Well done boys.

It takes a huge effort from so many people to make our golf day a success every year, from making teas and donating cakes for the popular half way house to helping us set up the course the day before. We have an army of people who helped us, and we would like to name as many as we can. Thank you to every single golfer that played, we hope you enjoyed the day and will come again next year. All the sponsors who give their money up so kindly, without you we would be unable to even start the day. To every single company and individual who donated something to the raffle and auction. To Josie Pearson for coming to help us. To Aaron and Paul who help us out every year the day before with vans and equipment as well as pure musle to get those posts in, thanks chaps. To the Millichip family who support the charity at most events, in particular Angela, Madeline, David and Sue for your efforts at the half way house, and Claire for the raffle. To Keith Greenfield who comes every year all the way from Kent to help with the videos. To the entire media team for donating your time to the cause. Richard Davies for mucking in and being a pleasure to work with on the day. To the boys that came from Germany on behalf of the Queens Royal Hussars, you always have a good time and make us smile. To Rachel and Karen, who always bring us a stack of lovely flowers all the way from London. And a big thank you to our 2 committee members Scott and Fran, who out of the kindness of their hearts come to meetings and get stuck in to the running of the charity with the trustees, we really do appreciate you. For the 2 super ladies at registration, Amanda and Laura. You have an important job and do it well. And finally, we simply would have no golf day without Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club and all the staff their, from groundsmen to the kitchen staff, management and the golfers at the club, you are the key to a brilliant day. A special thank you to Graham, you have supported us throughout.

To have so much support for a charity which began to remember our lost friend Adam and has grown into a brilliant testimony to the kindness which still exists in this World, it fills us as Trustees with so much emotion when, sat around a meeting table we realise how much more good we can do in the coming months.
