Mel Clarke with Kathryn, Mark & Stuart

Trainee Trustee takes it upon herself to fundraise for the Foundation

Lacon Childe school pupil Kathryn Fish had been determined to run her own Adam Millichip Foundation charity event for quite some time and June 23rd was the chosen date.

Kathryn had decided to commandeer the help of her fellow pupils and organise a sponsored mile around the school grounds. After seeking permission from her head of year teacher and then the school head master she set about creating a video that would help encourage others to participate in the event.

The intention was to get all of the year 7 pupils involved, but with the help of Kathryn’s video and the school PE teacher she now had all of the year 8 pupils involved too.

Foundation Trustees, Mark Fish and Stuart Millichip were on hand to set up the start & finish line and to also help with the prize giving ceremony after the event. Joining Mark and Stuart was Paralympic Bronze and Silver medal winning archer Mel Clarke, who was coaching at the school on behalf of Sky Sports under the Sky Academy, Living for Sport Programme.

Year 7 girls were the first to cross the start line, followed by the year 7 boys. Kathryn’s mum Jennifer, positioned herself in the middle of the course about 20 metres from the start line where she was in prime position to take photos and videos of the pupils as they went by.

Prizes were given out for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd girls and boys to cross the finish line to add a bit of competition to the event, although not everybody decided to run it.

After the year 7 pupils finished it was the turn of the year 8’s who followed the same format of girls starting off just before the boys. There were three teachers that took the opportunity to stretch their legs and join the race, which was of high amusement to quite a few of the children.

With both year groups over the finish line, Kathryn gave a thank you speech and proceeded to hand out the prizes to the winners, with the help of Mel and the Foundation Chairman Stuart Millichip, who commented “a big thank you must go to Kathryn for organising the event and to everybody who took part, The Foundation is very grateful to you all”.

Kathryn and her fellow pupils raised £1,113.21 which is an amazing achievement.
